Generally speaking, the search for new versions of STARFACE is triggered using the "Search now" button. If a newer version than the one currently installed is found, the corresponding release note is shown. Whether the version shown can also be installed is directly linked to the installed licenses and the existence of an update contract (see also “Read the license information on the STARFACE”).
Which of the available versions are to be installed can be selected. At the same time, it is shown whether all of the installed modules are compatible with the new version of STARFACE. If more recent versions of the modules are available, they are automatically selected using the checkbox and are updated as part of the system update. Warning messages are also issued if a module is not shared or updatable, for example.
A backup is automatically carried out before the update is installed. If an error occurs during the installation, the previous STARFACE state is restored without any data loss. Depending on the extent of the backup, the process may last several minutes. To complete the update, STARFACE is restarted, and in the update view it is possible switch back to the login screen for the STARFACE web interface.
There are two possible ways of carrying out the installation process:
Performing Download and Installation Together
- The “Separate Download and Installation” checkbox is not selected.
- Search for a new version using the button
- Select the version to install
- Wait for the new version to download and install
Separate Download and Installation
- The “Separate Download and Installation” checkbox must be selected
- Search for a new version using the button
- Select the version to install
- Specify the time for starting the download
- Wait until the download in the background has ended
- Start the installation process at any time using the “Install Now” button
