Web interface of the STARFACE
Menu "Configuration"
Menu "Server"
Tab "Backup"

A new backup configuration can be created using the "Create" or "New Schedule" button. The created backup file has the file type ".sar". The configuration is carried out in 4 steps.

First Step

The configurable items in the first step are the following:

FieldDescription
NameA name for the backup configuration which is as meaningful and unique as possible should be entered here.
Report to
If an error occurs, the backup configuration messages are sent to the e-mail address stored here.
Backup intervallThis drop-down menu is used to control how often a backup configuration is to be executed in a time-controlled manner. The "Manual" selection means that the backup process is not started automatically; instead, it must always be started manually.
Start & Time

The information provided for "Start" and "Time" indicate the time that the backup process automatically starts for the first time. The time information provided under "Backup interval" is calculated from the time configured at this point.

An internal STARFACE monitoring process prevents STARFACE Archivierung and backup creation from being started in parallel. The process started first is completed and the second process starts an hour later. It is recommended to make a clear temporal separation here.

Second Step

In the second step, the checkboxes are used to define what STARFACE data forms part of the backup and is therefore backed up:

CheckboxDescription
Core dataUsers, groups, telephones, chat history, etc.
CDR and voicemailsVoicemails’ voice messages and call lists’ data records (CDR)
Voicemail announcementsSelf-created announcement texts (e.g. for voicemail boxes)
Note: Both CDR data and voicemails can contain significant amounts of data, making the backup file very large. This should be taken into account when choosing the backup file’s storage location.

Third Step

In this third step, the storage location for the backup file can be selected. In this regard, only one of the possible options can be selected during this configuration step. More storage locations can be added later while the backup process is being configured.

DestinationDescription
Server hard driveSaves the backup file on the local STARFACE hard drive
Windows ShareSaves the backup file on a Windows Share
SFTPSaves the backup file on a server via Secure FTP
DropboxSaves the backup file on a Dropbox account
USB storageSaves the backup file on a connected USB disk
Send to e-mail addressSend the backup file by e-mail

During this process, the access data for the respective system must be specified using the  button in the case of individual options such as "Windows Share" or "Dropbox". If "Windows Share" has been selected as the storage location, the following access data must be entered:

FieldDescription
UserThe username as expected by the destination server (e.g. with domain)
PasswordPassword for accessing the destination server
ServerThe destination server’s IP address
ShareName of the share plus sub-directories which are attached with /
SecurityDrop-down menu for choosing the authentication process
Note: The backup process itself creates a “starface-backup” directory containing a sub-directory whose name corresponds to the name of the backup process.

If "SFTP" has been selected as the storage location, the following access data must be entered:

FieldDescription
UserThe username as expected by the destination system
PasswordPassword for accessing the destination system
ServerThe destination system’s IP address (not including protocol or port information)
PathThe absolute path or . (dot) for the current directory

If Dropbox has been selected as the storage location, access to Dropbox must be guaranteed for the STARFACE backup process. The backup process itself creates a “starface-backup” directory containing a sub-directory whose name corresponds to the name of the backup process.

Note: The backup for the Dropbox must not exceed 150 MB.
The simplest configuration option here is to use the button "Dropbox Settings". This button allows direct access to the Dropbox page and immediate creation of the confirmation code following successful login to the same.

Fourth Step

In this last step of the configuration process, you receive a brief overview of the settings made, and it must be determined how to proceed with the configuration.

FieldDescription
Keep settings and execute backup

The backup process is executed immediately and the created configuration is saved too.

Only execute backup

The backup process is executed immediately, but the created configuration is not saved.

Only keep settings

The created configuration is saved, but the backup process is not executed immediately.

Note: If the backup process is executed immediately, it can also be downloaded straight after it has been carried out successfully.
